INTERNSHIP ROTATION CHOICES:
Team with a Caregiver for a Week in our Assisted Living Community
- Learn the fundamentals of dealing with individuals with memory impairments including the use of tools such as engagement and re-direction for management of behaviors.
- Get and in-depth look at care issues surrounding someone with memory impairments.
- Work closely with individuals with different stages of memory loss. Learn valuable approaches to dealing with various levels of Alzheimer’s Disease and other Dementias.
Hospice-offering care at the end of life
- Have the opportunity to go behind the scenes in a Hospice office. Learn about the Hospice program and the various benefits that it offers to individuals who qualify.
- Get to know the continuum of care and the care coordination that is involved in a Hospice environment.
- Team with the Social Worker and/or Chaplin as they visit patients.
- Attend the Volunteer training program to become a Hospice Volunteer. As a Hospice Volunteer you will visit patients and do various activities with them such as reading, having conversations, singing, playing a musical instrument, and providing them with compassion and support.
Team up with a Community Ambassador
- Go out in the field with a Community Ambassador and learn the marketing and relationship building aspect of geriatric care.
Senior Services in a Home Care or Assisted Living Environment
- Observe how to care for someone with dementia as a one-to-one companion-either in a home or assisted living environment.
- Get and in-depth look at care issues surrounding someone with memory impairments.
- Experience first hand the family dynamics and psycho-social issue that surround Alzheimer’s and Dementia.
Activities in our Assisted Living Community
- Learn how to engage individuals with Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia in an activity setting.
- Learn different methods of stimulation (physically and mentally) that are appropriate for individuals with memory impairments.
- Take away some valuable tools and activity ideas to use with the geriatric population.
